NASB | 2 Corinthians 1:12 ¶ For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 1:12 ¶ This is our [reason for] proud confidence: our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world [in general], and especially toward you, with pure motives and godly sincerity, not in human wisdom, but in the grace of God [that is, His gracious lovingkindness that leads people to Christ and spiritual maturity]. |
Subject: In simplicity and sincerity of God? |
Bible Note: Hi Timothy Paul, I hope that my question was more thought provoking than annoying or irritating.:o) It is late here, and I am on the computer because I wasn't sleeping very well; so I will only talk about 2 Cor 1:12. I agree with your Webster's dictionary that "defines godly as something of or from God (cap)." For it was not in fleshly wisdom, but in the simplicity and sincerity of God, that they conducted themselves in the world, and with them. That is what they gloried in, according to their conscience; it wasn't from themselves, it was all from God. Good night for now. May I lead you to read other occurances of "godly" with the idea of noting the different Greek words there. 2 Timothy 3:12, Titus 2:12, and 2 Peter 2:9. From the heart, Ray |
