AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 9:22 To the weak I became [as the] weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means [in any and every way] save some [by leading them to faith in Jesus Christ]. |
Bible Question:
I understand this verse is not properly applied to the situation I am going to address. However, the spirit of evangelizing does fit. For outreaching the youth in the neighbourhood of my church, a few leaders suggested our preacher to pay several field visits during lunch time to the shops or restaurants where students usually gather to find the possible means of contact. Now there is a brewing idea of opening a tuck shop for the ministry (though this is only at the idea-building stage). I, personally, have great reservation on the idea. Here are my concerns: 1/ Resource (both in terms of money and manpower) properly used as we have very tight resource and the rental price is high. 2/ Goal could be twisted from outreaching ministry to maintaining a balance account. 3/ Is it the purpose of local church and a biblical way to reach the lost? I need views grounded with scriptural support. Your help is very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |
Bible Answer: Maybe the answer isn't trying to find a scripture, to validate this ministry, (outreach). But there are some logical questions to be asked. 1.) If you went out and stood on the street corner, would people come to where you were, to hear your testimony, (witness) about God, Jesus? The people of the world do not want to hear this message. I would assume it would be even more so in your culture. (In the U.S. we have a tradition of Christianity) 2.) Then the next question would be, what would then make your Church think, the youth will come to a place where they know before hand, the message of salvation, is what they will more than likely be hearing? They might as well be going to a Church. So when you think about it, your Church already has a building for preaching the Gospel doesn't it? Let me relate a true story to you. When I first got saved, there was a church that opened a Christian Coffee House, in an area where there were a lot of young people to be ministered to, this was in the 60,s. These young people, would only come there to meet each other, they didn't want to be preached at, they weren't buying anything. It then started to cost the Church money to run the place, instead of the ministry being self sustaining. So after awhile word got out, and the only people that were coming to the place, were young Christians, and the ministry then became nothing more than a business, a true Christian coffee house. I believe our example is that of Paul, he walked into cities, began speaking in the streets. Acts 17:23 At the beginning of his ministry, he would go to the synagogue, but God revealed to him, his ministry was to the Gentile. Vintage68 |
