Bible Note: Hi Doc, No, I didn't have anything else in mind. I have long understood the verse to mean just that. I was just wondering if there was something definitive in the text that I had missed. I know that many commentators have given that interpretation, although that does not carry the same weight as if there were something actually in the text to specifiy this. Tim pointed out that the verb for "to burn" is in the middle voice, of intransative or reflexive action. So to me, this would not indicate the burning of judgement, which is what I have heard as the alternative interpretation of this verse, since that would take a passive verb, and would rather read, as many have rendered it, as the ESV, to be aflame with passion.
