Bible Question:
I am personally having a difficult time relating I Cor. 7:7-8 to Gen. 2:18. I Cor. tends to indicate that maybe it is best to remain single. My foundation is in Gen. God instituted marriage BEFORE the fall of man; while everything was still in it's perfect fourm; before the adversary decided to become a living hemorrhoid, God said that it is not good for man to be alone. There was no lust to worry about, no passion to consider. Did something change between Gen. and I Cor.?? And if not, why is it best to remain single?? The CurtMan |
Bible Answer: Dear Curt, Gen 2:18 Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.". God was speaking of Adam in particuler, not mankind in general. He said THE man. God does not forbid or command marriage. If a person, such as Paul, (having the gift to remain celebate) desires to devote himself exclusively to the service of the gospel, Paul says that that is a good thing. A married man, having responsibilities to his wife, would not be able to devote all his time due to family obligations. John |
