Bible Question:
I've got a historical question that I'd like to throw out there. It is understood in scripture that Paul was not married. As he said in 1 Corin 7:7 he would that all men would be as he was. Being single is implied here. Now, Paul as we know was Saul of Tarsus who was a Pharisee. My understanding of the Pharisees is that in order to be a Pharisee, you must be married. So either I'm wrong in assuming that Paul was a Pharisee, wrong in assuming that you must be married to be a Pharisee or I'm misreading the scripture. Does anyone know where I could find an answer? |
Bible Answer: Paul was unmarried, that is for sure. As far as him being married at one time or another, The John MacArthur Study bible tends to point in that direction in the very next verse, I Cor 7:8. Could I also suggest that the possibility exsist that you could also be misunderstanding scripture?? If you're correct in Paul wishing that all men was to remain single, then what would be the purpose of the marriage; instituted by God before the fall of man. If what you're saying is right, then it appears that Paul has a problem with the way that God is running things. Could we both be wrong?? What do you think?? The CurtMan |
