AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is keeping the commandments of God. |
Bible Question: I was born into a church that excommunicates parents for circumcizing their male children, based on Paul's injuction in Galatians chapter 5 from verse 2. My question is, what is the context in which Paul gave the injunction? Does it mean that Gentiles that are circumcized have really fallen away from the grace? |
Bible Answer: Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 7 17 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches. 18 Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. Paul says here that the flesh is nothing. Only doing what we believe we are callled to do. Galations says something very different and very important regarding salvation. Galatians 5 1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Here Paul is speaking of the deeds of the Law versus the Law of Grace. If man tries to recieve justification by the deeds of the law(circumsion or anything else for that matter) he will fail. He must recieve justification through grace by faith. ROYFISH |
