Bible Question: Once we have settled the "ownership" issue, how do we "glorify God" in our body? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mommapbs, You said: "Once we have settled the 'ownership' issue"... This is 90 percent of the battle! :) If we can agree with God that our bodies are not our own, but we, ourselves, were bought at a price (1 Cor. 7:23; Acts 20:28), then I believe that we would also be more willing to agree that the Lord is the Lord of our future, and of our actions, and everything else. Once we agree that our bodies are God's, then we must realize that we are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6), since our "old self" was crucified with Him. Once we come to terms with that, then we must "put on the new self" (Colossians 3:2-17). "for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live." (Romans 8:13) So, how can we "glorify God" in our body by 'putting to death the deeds of the body'? "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1 Cor. 9:27, KJV) We must continue to bring the deeds of our body under subjection, so that we can resist the devil (James 4:7) and bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5). And we must do this daily: "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me." (Luke 9:23) For Jesus says: "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me." (Matthew 10:38) Therefore, we must bring our bodies under subjection on a daily basis, carefully guarding every word, thought, and action, so that we will show the 'fruit' of living by the Spirit (Romans 8:13; Galatians 5:22-23). And if we continue to live by the Spirit by taking up our cross on a daily basis: "But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life." (Romans 6:22) We receive eternal life as a free gift when we become saved (Romans 3:24, 4:5; Ephesians 2:8-9). However, we continue to glorify God in our bodies after we become saved by 'proving' through our words, thoughts, and actions that we are, in fact, enslaved to God rather than continue to be enslaved by our bodies of sin. And we must be enslaved to God on a daily basis. Blessings to you, Makarios |
