Bible Question: How does this question help Paul's argument to the church in Corinth? |
Bible Answer: You must also consider the greater context of to whom Paul was teaching this to. In corinth there were all kinds of pagan temples one of which was the temple of aphrodite. It is estimated that there may have been up to 1000 temple prostitues there. The idea being that to worship aphrodite you had to go have sex with one of the prostitutes. Paul may have been trying to reach some who had come out of that religion and explain to them that with Christ sex is for marriage. |
