Bible Question:
Aspiring Overseer responded to this thread 2 1/2 years ago. The question was "When or should we avoid unbelievers?". His response was excellent: "Christians are to be in the world, but not of the world. They must associate with the world to fulfill their obligation to share the gospel. Association with Christians who are practicing sin, however, is another matter. God commands them to have no association with them, other than to receive their confession and hold them accountable to their deeds of repentance. In all areas a Christian must be discerning as to their surroundings. While they might find a person who is seeking God in a tavern or strip club, their credibility as a priest of the Most High God would be severely hampered. Thus it is prudent to "just say no" to doing certain things or being certain places. There are plenty of people seeking God in more "wholesome" venues. So the bottom line is to keep associating with those of the world as long as that association will not negatively effect you or your family. Stop association with a Christian who is practicing sin, once they have been urged to stop and they refuse. Make sense? AO" How far should the church go in holding members accountable? Do we go far enough or "too far" in "judging our church leadership? Any comments? Pastor Glenn |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Mat 7:15-20, 18:15-17; Act 17:11, 20:25-35; 1 Cor 10:15, 14:29; 1 Tim 3:1-12, 5:19-20; Tit 1:5-9 ... Accrording to God, we are to judge our leaders: -whether their walk matches their talk (Mat 7:15-20) -if what they are teaching us is Biblical (Act 17:11) -who would their people away from the whole will of God (Act 20:25-35) -what our they say (1 Cor 10:15, 14:29) -if they are qualified to be a leader in the church (1 Tim 3:1-12, Tit 1:5-9) -publicly who have been accused by two or three witnesses (1 Tim 5:19-20 xref Mat 18:15-17) Searcher |
