Bible Question: I'm not sure if I understand this verse. "Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye not be judged". Is it okay to judge others as long as you don't judge their salvation, but only their characther? |
Bible Answer: Perhaps your confusion comes because you stopped reading to soon, consider the rest of the this passage. Matthew 7:1-2 "Judge not, that you be not judged. [2] For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. What Jesus is saying is we tend to use a different standard looking at others than we use when we look at ourselves. We will criticize a mother for the behavior of her children but in doing so we are guilt of gossip and/or back biting. Scripture tells us if we see a brother is sin we are to try to get him out of it Gal 6:1. That requires judging to know if he is in sin or not. Where we are not to judge is on motivation and or salvation. Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand. EdB |
