NASB | 1 Corinthians 5:1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 5:1 It is actually reported [everywhere] that there is sexual immorality among you, a kind of immorality that is condemned even among the [unbelieving] Gentiles: that someone has [an intimate relationship with] his father's wife. [Deut 22:30; 27:20] |
Bible Question: 1 corinthians 5:11 states that we are not to associate with anyone who calls himself a brother who is sexually immoral etc...with such a one do not even eat with. (paraphrased) What I want to know is how do you know exactly if that person is a believer living in sin or someone who claims to be a believer in sin...Even if the person says they are a Christian doesn't mean they are. Even if I doubt that they are a believer based on there own admission of being a believer does this scripture apply? I met a new women in our church and she came forward for prayer feeling guilty of her addiction to prescription drugs and her live in boy friend. She says that she was saved and used to even teach Sunday school and even had much knowledge of the scriptures. But when I counceled her to take the next step of faith and leave this boyfriend she did not heed my councel and came to church a week later with this live in boyfriend and wouldn't hardly look at me....I even called her and she did not return my call. I told her if she really loved God and had a healthy fear of Him she would obey the Lord.....So would she be considered a believer living in sexual sin by her own admission? |
Bible Answer: greeting to the family of believers. My friend ... please take what I say with a smile and know that God loves you, too. this scripture 1st corinthians 5:11 has been used by many of you who claim Christ as yours and yours to judge those who draw near to him. I would suppose that there are ten's of thousands of sinners who found the Love of Christ in their hearts, and could not find it at Church so they wont go back. (and now i cry with her... her bleeding heart is now stepped on.) The weary sinners come looking for rest (because Jesus promised them this at the cross) looking for Salvation and Love some of them found it for the first time and others found it available to them again after they saw that the TRUTH is Love. And He offers the sinner a LIFE and promises us He is the WAY. Now we come to the Lord's House beaten torn, addicts, with guilt, lust and shame, proclaiming aloud before the family of believers, seeking prayers, councel, healing and repentence. And for her obidience to Christ call to the sinner to return, she recieves harsh judgement, intolerance, humility and even stared at. I'm sure she regrets giving her number to some one who is so intrusive. How dare you judge them saying " I doubt that they are a believer based on their own admision of being a believer" if they did not believe why are they at church? The 5th chapter of 1 Corinthians was written by Paul as a reply to the church he and Timothy had begun. He is the judge of the practices of these people but only within the walls of the church, as he clearly states. It had been reported that a man among them was having his fathers wife. This is still the subject in the 11th verse. And it has nothing to do with the sinners who Christ calls into HIS house for repentance. may I suggest this ... pray for forgivness, claim ignorance, humble yourself, then print a copy of this page and include it with your letter of apology to her and if posible never exalt yourself like this again. Then Praise God for the Truth is in Christ, Jesus. Amen. |
