Subject: Is smoking a sin? |
Bible Note: Dear Saltnlight, Welcome to the forum sister! You asked "We are his workmanship, created for good works in Christ Jesus. Are we being prevented by our own fleshly desire or sin, in becoming all he has for us?" I think it is important to understand the full meaning of the verse. Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. a) For we are His workmanship... indicates that God is not waiting for us to work on ourselves, but that, He is the one who is doing the work in us. We are (so to speak) under construction. (b)created in Christ Jesus for good works... The key is "in Christ". (c) We are, on a daily basis, being used by our Maker to accomplish good works which God prepared beforehand so that WE WOULD walk in them. The fact that our good works were pre-ordained, tells me, that God does not rely on my spiritual maturity, but rather, my dependence for spiritual maturity is upon Him! I must hasten to add that the fact that God is soverign does not abrogate my responsibiity to strive in my goal to be a profitable servant. So... my answer to your question is a resounding NO. Is 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure'; Your Brother, John (Reformed) |
