Bible Note: Brother Hank, I fully agree with the latter part of your note. A Christian should do good to bear witness of his faith. And of course not to be a stumbling rock to fellow believers. But aren't all these depend on the state of mind. The present ongoing campaign against smoking is indeed making smoking a stumbling rock and a speck of sawdust in a smoker's eye. A making of a culture is in progress i.e. smoking is bad. I fully agree but is it only smoking? Mcdonalds, Coke, body piercing, diet pills, libido pills, the list goes on. So one will ask, where will this stop? Where are we going to set the line between community acceptance and sin? Missing a Mass on the day of Mother Mary's Ascension used to be a sin when I was a Catholic. It is a day of obligation for the Catholic community. It is not a sin to me anymore. My real opinion on this matter is God gave us freedom but because of our desire to make this world better, we tend to create rules to restrict ourselves from doing bad things. In the end, we become prisoners of our own doing. God Bless Ngop |
