Bible Question: What does Mr. Guzic mean by "a figurative title --at the first meeting."? |
Bible Answer: JALKSTRO Not to put words in Mr. Guzic mouth let me say. The term 12 used in this verse is not used to represent the number of people in attendance but rather represents the disciples who were collectively known as the twelve. They started out being the twelve men that became disciples of Jesus Christ but as Jesus’ following grew soon there were many more than just twelve, so if they wanted to talk only of the original disciples they could no longer say Jesus’ disciples they had to used the figurative title of the “the twelve”. It is similar to The United States of America. The real name is The United Sates of America yet we use the figurative title United States or America. EdB |
