Bible Question: John 15 states that Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches and that any branch that does not bear fruit will be cut off and cast into the fire. How does this verse square with the concept of eternal salvation and the eternal security of the believer? I personally believe in the eternal security of the believer and that salvation cannot be lost as there are many verses that convey this message but what do these verses in John refer to? The burning of our bodies?, souls? or what? And how can one be "in Christ" and then cut off and cast into the fire? |
Bible Answer: Dear Dimphil, Fruitless branches prove themselves to be not truly in the vine. Anyone truly in Christ will bear fruit (Ehp 2:8-10). This is another gracious warning from God to examine ourselves to see that we are truly in the faith (2 Cor 3:15). No fruit, no faith. Also remember that both fruitful wheat and fruitless weeds grow up together in the church (Mat 13). Peace, Lionstrong |
