NASB | 1 Corinthians 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 15:2 By this faith you are saved [reborn from above--spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose], if you hold firmly to the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain [just superficially and without complete commitment]. |
Bible Question: Is there anywhere in the Bible that speaks about one losing their salvation. I would like to know of any verses that may support this. Thank you. |
Bible Answer: There are scores of verses which clearly teach salvation can be lost. However, be aware that this is a hot potato that will split Christians. Other verses would include: Rom 11:22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. Col 1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister. 1Ti 4:16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you. Heb 3:12-14 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, Jam 1:12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 2Pe 2:20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. People who argue that you cannot lose your salvaton basically reason that you can't add anything or take anything from Christ's atoning work. Therefore, you cannot lose your salvation. The Apostle Paul surely knew even he could lose his salvation when he wrote: 1Co 9:27 but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified. |
