NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:23 Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:23 So then, if the whole church gathers together and all of you speak in [unknown] tongues, and outsiders or those who are not gifted [in spiritual matters] or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? |
Bible Question:
Acts 14: 23-31 What do you think, if we are all in the church sanctuary worshiping in tongues aloud, do you think that we should be silent and only speak the tongue to ourselves like the scripture is referring? In other words does anyone believe that we should keep quiet and the only tongues that should be heard are the gift of prophecy and interpretation - and only two or at the most three in an orderly fashion. Hope you all can grasp what Im getting at. Sorry if im not sounding clear. I used to believe and participate in worship by speaking in tongues aloud with the rest of the church, but now, after studying the scriptures I must admit I have come to the conclusion that I should be quiet unless I have a word of prophecy (tongue and interpretation). Most "Pentecostal" churches I know do worship aloud in tongues but is it a "COPIED" practice or maybe a pentecostal doctrine that now I think maybe a wrong one. Interested to hear comments on this subject. Hodgit. |
Bible Answer: Good question hodgit, My question is "how is it possible to authenticate speaking in tongues?" Every single example in the New Testament is "a known earthly language." I do not say tongues are not for today as the scriptures do not declare that as a "fact." The Bible says to "prove all things," but many of the pentecostal practices today can not be authenticated. I know many wonderful, godly penticostal folks and I have asked them the same question. Unfortunately their responses all rely on emotional feelings and "experiences" and not scriptures. The scriptures they use do not prove their position. What do you think? In Him, Psalm 25 |
