NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:22 Therefore, [unknown] tongues are [meant] for a [supernatural] sign, not to believers but to unbelievers [who might be receptive]; while prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people] is not for unbelievers but for believers. |
Bible Question: Do you have to speek in tounges to get saved, show me the verses that say you do, if you do. |
Bible Answer: Amanda- Johnny answered correctly. No where does it say in the bible that you have to speak in tongues to be saved. Salvation only comes through the the belief of Jesus' death on behalf of your sins and by your recognizing it as such and asking Him to be Lord of your life. Speaking in tongues is a gift, but I know many who are saved and do not speak in tongues. Tongues is a special "prayer language" that is only for the believer himself. It is private communion between the speaker and God and the speaker doesn't have a clue what he is saying. Sometimes it is just a need to use it (I believe it is an intercessory thing at times) and sometimes it is used when there are no words that are adequate in private praise and prayer. But for salvation - no. Debbie |
