NASB | 1 Corinthians 12:28 And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 12:28 So God has appointed and placed in the church [for His own use]: first apostles [chosen by Christ], second prophets [those who foretell the future, those who speak a new message from God to the people], third teachers, then those who work miracles, then those with the gifts of healings, the helpers, the administrators, and speakers in various kinds of [unknown] tongues. |
Bible Question:
In view of the fact that we have the completed Word of God, the Bible, is the gift of prophecy still in operation today and if so is it necessary apart from Scripture? 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Bible Answer: Hi, CDBJ! I do not think that any prophet sent by God will reveal any new Gospel or prophecy, as in Jesus Christ all has been fulfilled (Matthew 5:17; 11:13; Luke 16:16; Galatians 3;22-29) We do have to be concerned with what these "prophets" purport to offer as God's message since Jesus warns that there will be those who will come attempting to lure God's chosen away (Matthew 24:23-26)... Paul also cautions against those who will attempt to present a "new" revelation/Gospel(Galatians 1:6-12)... This is where the discernment of Spirit comes into play... we are to receive those who God send us... but not all who claim to be apostles are truly God's sent... as Jesus said, the tree will be known by its fruits (Matthew 12:33)! God Bless! Angel |
