AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 12:28 So God has appointed and placed in the church [for His own use]: first apostles [chosen by Christ], second prophets [those who foretell the future, those who speak a new message from God to the people], third teachers, then those who work miracles, then those with the gifts of healings, the helpers, the administrators, and speakers in various kinds of [unknown] tongues. |
Bible Question: Can you interpret 1 Corthians 12:28-31 |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mesha007, Here is a bit of commentary on 1 Corinthians 12:28-31.. "12:28 first ... The gifts are ranked in order of honor. The Corinthians were dislodging the more important gifts by promoting of the spectacular gift of tongues." (1) "12:29-30 The answer expected to all of these questions is no." (1) Paul is saying that we should not desire to use a spiritual gift to bring attention to ourselves, but for the good of the church. "But now indeed there are many members, yet one body" (v.20) And then, it is of no 'coincidence' that Paul then speaks of love in 1 Corinthians 13, which is the greatest gift of all. Blessings to you, Makarios (1) Ryrie Study Bible, Expanded Edition, 1995, The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, Charles C. Ryrie |
