Bible Question:
I am a born again believer, and have been baptized. I a prayed, and desire the baptizm of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongue. i do understand that this is only one of the gifts of the spirit, and that acoridng to 1 Corithians Paul states it rather that one have he gift prophesy which edifies the church, adn not of tongues which edify man(himself). I desire the gift of tongues that when speaking in an unknown tongue we praise God that He understands and it is a language spoken directly to Him. Will I miss the mark if I don't have this gift? and how do I recieve it? Thanks for your help. Faithful Husband |
Bible Answer: Dear Faithful Husband, ...Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3. ...Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kindgom of God. John 3:5 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth, so is "every one" that is born of the Spirit. John 3:8 Every believer that is born of the Spirit will have the same experience as stated in the latter part of the verse above. The scripture John 3:5 states that you "must" be born of the Spirit to get to the kingdom of God which is heaven. This action is not optional but an absolute command given by the Jesus Christ himself. As Jesus describes the experience of receiving the Spirit in John 3:8, he refers to the "wind" blowing and although you can hear it, you can't tell where it is coming from. The initial experience of this very "wind" blowing occurred on the day of Pentecost in the book of Acts, chapter 2:2-4. And it speaks on this wise, 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty "wind", and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. The baptism of the Holy Spirit/Ghost and being born of the Spirit are synonymous. If you have the Spirit of God, you WILL speak in an unknown tongue. The gift of tongues as spoken of in I Corinthians 12 refers to an operation of the Spirit, but the "manifestation" of the Spirit is given to every man who desires it and the "experience" of the baptism of the Holy Ghost is the same for every man as it was on the Day of Pentecost until this very hour. The Bibles says that we must pray in the Spirit...Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves (edify) on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. How would one pray in the Holy Ghost?....by speaking in other tongues. Paul didn't say that we shouldn't speak in tongues, but rather we speak not in a public setting. Such as, in the church setting at Corinth, it was out of order for one to interrupt the preaching and teaching with speaking in tongues as many were doing unless it was a direct message from the Lord to the church. And with God being a God of order, someone would be there to interpret ( operation of the Spirit) the language for all to understand and hear. The books of Corinthians are instructions to the church on how to have order in the church, which is often misinterpreted when it comes to the issue of speaking in tongues. I speak in tongues and my children do as well, because his word says in Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. And he's a God that cannot lie. Faithful Husband, the Lord is calling you. And He will honor your desire to receive ye the Holy Ghost because it is sincere. I respectfully charge you to believe on his Word as it is written and follow his command to be born again as the scritpure hath said in John 3:1-8. Find a quiet place, get on your knees, stand on your feet, lay on your bed do whatever is comfortable to you, then lift up your hands, open your mouth and repeatedly praise the Lord with a "Thank you Jesus" or "Hallelujah". When you continue to give God the highest praise with your lips and sincerity in your heart, you will receive ye the Holy Ghost with the inital sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave the utterance.
