Bible Note: Hi, Lookin... As all our discussion is visible to forum members and visitors alike, no doubt new librarian has followed our various points. We haven't engaged in a debate of theology. We are contending a point of exegesis, remaining in compliance with the doctrine of sola Scriptura (as required by our gracious forum host). When we are simply stating our personal beliefs, we will signal such a thing with key phrases, like, "I believe" or "In accordance with the tenets of my church" etc. The Scripture's authority is such that we can and ought be dogmatic about those things clearly stated by the Scripture. Furthermore, our love of the Word, over and above our love for personal validation, is such that we earnestly desire correction and reproof (Proverbs 9:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). Our world embraces an unreasoned syncretism and pluralism. However, our God is infinitely rational (Titus 1:2). He doesn't offer up truths to fit our taste like dishes in a smörgåsbord. His Word is truth (John 17:17). It is the kind of truth that sets us free (John 8:32). He wishes us to love the truth as He loves the truth (Zechariah 8:19). He enables what He commands by granting His elect a love of the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10). Consequently, we hold one another accountable (Hebrews 3:13), not simply because we are believers, but because our interaction is narrowly focused. It is focused on the Word itself (Study Bible), done publicly (Forum), and in accordance with the explicit guidelines of Lockman, with which we committed ourselves when we joined (Colossians 3:9). If the Lord will judge every idle word (Matthew 12:36), ought we to be casual about our public, SBF posts? In Him, Doc |
