Bible Note: Hi, Lookin... Too much ground here to cover, involving everything from theology proper, to christology, pneumatology, soteriology, ecclesiology, etc. etc. The confirmation of Jesus as Christ was, indeed, accompanied with great miracles. Furthermore, in the establishment of the church, the Holy Spirit moved in unique and powerful ways through the apostles. Those special acts don't represent normative behaviors for you and me. We don't walk on water to cross a lake, pay taxes by looking for coins in a fishes' mouth, curse unfruitful trees, or cure blindness by putting mud on eyelids. Furthermore, note that the verses you cited are all narrative. Trying to uncover doctrine from narrative leads to all kinds of error. We learn doctrine from didactic passages. Didactic passages are those that teach. They instruct us in orthodoxy (what to believe) and orthopraxy (what to do). The didactic passages that speak to spiritual gifts are Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4; 1 Peter 4. By way of reminder, and to get us back on track: Where in Scripture are we taught that any spiritual gift is "for ministering to those in the world?" In Him, Doc |
