Subject: Should Women Wear Hats? |
Bible Note: Tamara, thanks for your dialogue on my comments. A few points you attempted to share produced more questions than info. Your comment about the OT and NT being two very different things concerned me. Long ago I mentally discarded two pages from all of my Bibles ... The two uninspired pages with Old Testament and New Testament printed on them. Without the OT there would be no point for the NT. Take the OT references out of the NT and you don¡¦t have much left. All the OT prophecies that pointed to Jesus¡¦ birth, life, death and resurrection are important in our understanding the NT. 2 Tim 3:16 means exactly what it says ¡V Every inspired Scripture has its use for teaching the truth and refuting error, or for reformation of manners and discipline in right living, so that the man who belongs to God may be efficient and equipped for good work of every kind. (TNEB) You claimed that through studying history that women of the OT culture wore veils, shawls, which includes Sarah, etc. While I learned by studying HIS-story the exact opposite. Because of a famine, Abram took his wife Sarah to Egypt. He instructed her to lie and say she was his sister. (Do you recall the story?) Why? Because, and it happened as he expected ¡K she was beautiful. Doesn¡¦t seem she wore a veil. Your claim (from studying history) ¡K If you had long hair with it uncovered you were a Jewish prostitute. Sorry, but I¡¦d rather take HIS word over man¡¦s. But HIS-story tells a different viewpoint. Gen 38:12-16 explains the story of Judah and Tamar, his daughter-in-law. Tamar heard Judah was around, so she took off her widow¡¦s clothes and PUT on a veil in order to disguise herself. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute FOR she had covered her face. He asked her to lay with him. Interesting enough, by skipping into the NT we learn that Perez, one of the twin sons conceived was from whom Jesus came through the tribe of Judah. So, for me ¡V I¡¦ll take what HIS-story declares as truth. One of my favorite teachers at the first Bible College I attended asked us a question. I¡¦m asking you the same one. Why settle for what men say the Bible says rather than allowing the Bible to speak for itself? It ALL fits together perfectly. It sure does. Perhaps, rather than checking all your history books about that era ¡V you should do as I suggested before ¡V look for the answers to your questions in HIS-story (my favorite textbook). ƒº Goodnight, T¡¦oma |
