Subject: Can people still be a pharisee? |
Bible Note: Hi, Michael... You wrote, "...the attitude of them [Pharisees] is prevalent in our society today." Keep in mind that from an obedience standpoint, you could find no one better than a Pharisee. Also, from a teaching standpoint, they were outstanding. Jesus even told people to carefully do what they taught (Matthew 23:2-3a). The reason all of the Pharisaical flaws, as you call them, still exist is because they are fundamental to the human heart (Mark 7:21-23). Hypocrisy is rooted in our hearts. We always tend to identify with the good guys in Scripture. That's a form of hypocrisy, too (Matthew 23:29-33). I suspect that we would do better to try to discern just how closely we resemble the bad guys! In Him, Doc |
