Bible Question:
What does Paul mean when he says in 1Cor 1:18 ...for the work of the cross is folly to those pershing, but to us "who are being saved" it is the power of God. Is salvation a one-time event or an ongoing process? Bereaniam |
Bible Answer: Hello Bereaniam, Consider the verse in the context it is presented. Continue to read paying particular attention to vs 23 and 24. Here, Paul is pointing out how the truth of Christ is received. That is, to those who are perishing, it is foolishness. "Being saved" here refers to those who are called (vs 24). This verse taken in context, is focusing on God's power (see again vs 18). So, when Jesus said "it is finished" (John 19:30). What He meant was, It is finished. Along these lines, also consider Sanctification. This IS a thing of ongoing process. Sanctification- God setting the believer apart for Himself: positionally at salvation, progressively throughout life, and ultimately when the believer arrives in His presence in heaven (67).
