NASB | Romans 8:9 ¶ However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 8:9 ¶ However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God]. [Rom 8:14] |
Bible Question:
If we have the Spirit of Christ dwelling in us, what does He do if (when) we sin? Does He depart because God cannot dwell where there is sin? |
Bible Answer: First, it says "the Spirit of God" not "the Spirit of Christ." What does He do if (when) we sin? Eph 4:30 says it grieves the Holy Spirit. We are out of fellowship with Christ, until we confess our sins (1Jo 1:8-2:2). He will never leave us. I think about David in Psalm 51 - we just think so. God has not abaonded Israel (Neh 9). Steve |
