Bible Note: "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you." (NASB John 15:16 ) Joh 15:27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. Chosen for salvation, or chosen for the 12 disciples/apostles? Joh 6:70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? Elect in Christ - Since we are "in Christ", Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, Col 1:2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ we receive every benefit Christ receives, including being chosen by the Father. Isa 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. Is our "election before the foundation of the world" ever disassociated from Christ? We are elect "in Christ", just as we are righteous "in Christ", we have died "in Christ". God has credited to us Jesus' righteousness, death, and election. 2Th 2:13 But we ought to thank God always concerning you, brothers, beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth, From JFB: "chosen you — The Greek, is not the ordinary word for “elected,” implying His eternal selection; but taken for Himself, implying His having adopted them in His eternal purpose. It is found in the Septuagint (Deu 7:7; Deu 10:15)." He says "from the beginning" - the beginning of what? "From the beginning" does not equal "before the foundation of the world". Just some thoughts... Love in Christ, Mark |
