Bible Note: Colin Could the dating be wrong? Carbon dating is based on the atomic theory. Notice the word theory if it were proven it would be called proof. In fact the atomic theory had been proven to be in error. There are particles that have mass that move faster than the speed of light. The theory says as the speed of light is approached mass become infinite. Secondly the other aspect of the theory dealing with relativity has been shown to have problems since light coming back from space is bent the wrong way. Therefore while the law is known to have errors it is still the closest to explain what actually takes place and therefore is still in use, but research is still trying to develop a correct theory. I said all of that to say we now know the radioactive decay is not a universal constant but other factors play into it. We also know our estimations on the time required to form various minerals is wrong. Proven by the coal with an embedded tea kettle. The oldest human remains we can accurately and actually date is "Iceman" and is a man that is less than 6,000 years old. Remember the lunar landing? We constructed the Lunar lander and the buggy to be able to navigate dust approximately 6 to 7 feet thick. This was based on a formula that took annual amount of dust hitting the moon times the number of years. They had used millions and millions of years. Well when they took the actual depth of less than 6 inches and plugged it into the same formula and it working backwards they came up to an estimated age of the moon to be less than 10,000 years. I remember this clearly it was written up in books like Popular science, the newspapers, Time and such. Yet is conveniently forgotten today. I really don’t think we have a clue of how old the earth is from carbon dating. EdB |
