Bible Question:
How do we square Romans 8:19-22 with the fact that the creation has been subjected to death long before the fall of Adam? Add to this the following: "For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead." (1Co 15:21) Does this verse mean death for all things or just man alone? Colin |
Bible Answer: Adam's original sin brought SPIRITUAL death to mankind. PHYSICAL death existed previously. Consider God's words after Adam ate of the Tree of Knowledge: "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever" (Gen 3:22 NASB). Since God was concerned that Adam could BECOME immortal by eating from the Tree of Life, it logically follows that Adam was not physically immortal to start with. |
