NASB | Romans 7:5 For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 7:5 When we were living in the flesh [trapped by sin], the sinful passions, which were awakened by [that which] the Law [identifies as sin], were at work in our body to bear fruit for death [since the willingness to sin led to death and separation from God]. |
Subject: Does sin use the law or benefit from it? |
Bible Note: Thank you so much for clearing this up for me. You also helped me with some other questions I had or had been thinking about. I had a hard time understanding v.13 but the translation you have made it much easier. Also what you said about no one being able to look at the demands of the law and then their own lives can say that we don't deserve condemnation. I was just thinking last night about what I would do if I had to stand before God without Christ's atonement. There would be nothing I could say to explain away my sins. I would be guilty and deserving of condemnation. Thanks so much for talking so clearly and giving scriptures on things I am barely beginning to understand! |
