NASB | Romans 7:18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 7:18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness--my sinful capacity]. For the willingness [to do good] is present in me, but the doing of good is not. |
Bible Question: How can we determine what is good and evil in a thing or subject? Should we see it at the two different points of view to show us the full picture or should we see it as general? |
Bible Answer: Cong: Mark 10:18 says, "only God is good." We would be wise to recognize that evil is not the opposite equal of God! Nothing is equal to Him! James 1:17 tells us that God alone is the giver of good gifts Therefore, we can reason the Jesus, being God, is the ONLY GOOD GIFT (thing). As we look at things in general, couldn't we say that anything that is NOT of God is evil? I think we struggle a bit here as there is a prevalent world view of man that says "man is basically good." However, God's Word tells us that no good thing dwells in us! Read on in Romans 7. Who can rescue us from this condition? Only God! And that's the Good News! (Romans 5:8) Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Cor 9:15. mommapbs PS: To determine if something is OF GOD, how does it stack up with this admonition? "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Phil 4:8 |
