Bible Note: Greetings Iktoose, That was a very interesting and I had to do some research on that one. From what I could find out, Jesus was leaving Judea and making the trip North in John chapter four. There was another route He could have taken that was to the East which passed along the banks of the Jordan River. That was a route most often used by the Jews so they could avoid the Samaritans. The time period of the verse in John 4 could have been connected and be the earlier part of the same journey as described in Matt. 15 and 16, which ended up at its most northern point in Sidon. Here is an interesting thought that I found in, (BKC) From John 4:26 and the Fact of Jesus declaring who He is. (Bible Knowledge Commentary) 4:26. This self-declaration by Jesus Himself—I… am He (the Messiah)—is unusual. Normally in His ministry in Galilee and Judea (cf. 6:15) because of political implications, He veiled His office and used the title “Son of Man.” But with this Samaritan the dangers of revolt by national zealots were not a problem. From everything that I have found I would say that the encounter with the Samaritan woman in John 4, took place before the session with the disciples in Matt. 16. No absolute Biblical proof though, one way or the other as I can see. Again, good question, maybe someone else can shed some light on this; someone that has expertise on the travels of Jesus and can fit Matthew, Mark, Luke and John into the proper time frames. Have a great day, CDBJ |
