Subject: Is sin inherited from father and mother? |
Bible Note: Greetings disciplerami! I cannot agree with what you have posted. God's Word declares that "All have sinned." Sin is a condition; it is not dependent upon actions. It is a state of being. Water is water whether is is frozen, liquid or a gas. All humans are sinners, whether they are born or unborn. When God said to the first couple, "in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die," (Gen 2:17) I believe that not only were Adam and Eve separated from God spiritually, but a change occurred in their physical bodies as well. (See Gen 3:22-24)Recall that they were prevented from eating of the Tree of Life - this would have enabled them to live forever in this sinful condition. How merciful God was in barring this from them! We know from our understanding of various life processes, that certain substances are essential for the proper functioning of our bodies. Obviously, there was something that the Tree of Life provided that was necessary for immortality as well. So,without the Tree of Life, physical death became a reality for man. When we consider the nature of genetic transfer, it is not difficult to understand the transmission of a "sin nature" from one generation to the next. Just because a person (ie. an infant) has not committed a sinful thought or act does not eliminate the sin nature. We understand through the loss of David and Bathsheba's first son (2 Sam 12:23)that those who die before reaching the age of accountability are given mercy and grace. But this does not mean that they are not "sinful" at conception; for when the egg and sperm unite, it is the sin-tainted genomes that combine to form a living soul. Hereditary sin originated with Adam and will continue to be transmitted until the last individual in God's Book is born. In the case of Mary, a possibility to consider is that the sin-tainted genome is always passed from the male (Adam) and therefore the genetic material passed to Christ from Mary was without the Adamic taint. However, I can not agree with those who assert that Mary was also without sin for Mary was the product of a human union, and thus she possessed the sin-nature that was tranmitted from her father at the very least! All of this is indeed speculation, but it is based upon what we know about the prinicples of heredity. Perhaps you could consider this as a possiblity - it is not too hard to understand. mommapbs |
