AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 12:3 ¶ For by the grace [of God] given to me I say to everyone of you not to think more highly of himself [and of his importance and ability] than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has apportioned to each a degree of faith [and a purpose designed for service]. |
Subject: And not so low that ...? |
Bible Note: OK. That seems to balance the scales. And it occurs to me now that we will have solved this situation when we have learned to imitate the Savior. He knew who he was, and he was the Son of God. He said, "I am ...", "I am ..." and he said, "I am". And yet he called himself the Son of man. He was Master and Lord, and yet he washed the disciples' feet. He did not lack for confidence. Yet he was meek and lowly in heart. And we should be like that. May the Lord help us. Let his mind be in us that was also in Christ (Philippians 2:5). It may be that high self-esteem can be so effectively modulated by lowliness of mind that it does not get out of hand. Perhaps that's what Paul was saying. |
