Subject: when a I saved and when baptised |
Bible Note: Aspiring Overseer - You posted, "Christian baptism is unquestionably a commandment of God." Yes, Scripture teaches that, and I nodded my head in agreement as I read this segment of your post. ..... But you continued with, "and must be obeyed for salvation." Well, AO, my vertical nod of assent rapidly changed to a horizontal shake of the head in disagreement. "Thou shalt not steal" is a commandment of God also. But if I obey that commandment by refraining from stealing, will that save me? Friend, I don't hold to baptismal regeneration because Scripture teaches salvation by grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone. The Scriptures you cited, ostensibly to prove the validity of baptismal regeneration, fail to say what you appear to imply that they say. The hour is late and I intend to labor the point no more, especially not at this hour to to stage a full remonstrance to your argument on behalf of baptismal regeneration, but to close this post with a summary statement, as follows: The Bible teaches that salvation is by God's grace alone, effected on the sole basis of the redemption of Jesus Christ. It is on the merit of His shed blood, His finished work on the cross, and not on the basis of human merit or works. Cf. John 1:12; Ephesdians 1:4-7; 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:18,19. ...... I make this post in keen awareness of this subject having been treated of many times before on SBF, but with no intent at all to commence a debate on it, which always has a tendency to become heated, divisive, and ends up being counter-productive, benefitting no one. Thus, let those who wish to read more on the subject utilize the Search engine, and let's the rest of us move on to other topics. Thanks, AO, for revisiting SBF again after some time of absence. Blessings to you. --Hank |
