Subject: Romans 10:9: is it too simple? |
Bible Note: Dear You said: "If you are right, unless God gives that empowering grace to everyone, then He is a respector of persons. God forbid!" We can misunderstand the meaning of a particular verse when we remove it from it's context. Acts 10:34 Opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality," Notice that verse 34 is modified by the verse which follows it: Acts 10:35 but in every nation THE MAN WHO FEARS Him AND DOES WHAT IS RIGHT is welcome to Him." The 10th chapter of acts teaches that it is no longer among the Jews alone that the call of God is being sent t, but the gentiles also have now been included. Furthermore, there are many examples that prove that God makes choices between persons, not based on the person himself, but in accordance with God's will alone: Deut 7:6 "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth" ; 1 Chr 16:13 "O seed of Israel His servant, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!" Mark 13:20 "Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days." I suggest you do a word search on "choose or chosen". It may alter your percetion on just how God rules over His creation. A word search on "elect" may also temper your belief that it is a "perverted" doctrine. You also said: "God wants everyone to be saved, and everyone could potentially be saved because the sacrifice has been made for them too. It is up to each man to hear the Gospel and obey it. "Lord, who has believed our report?" See my post ID# 52083 on 2nd Peter. I argue that the pronoun "any" (God is not willing that any should perish...) refers to any of the elect. Your closing point: "Ephesians 2:8,9 shows that God's grace reaches down and saves men of faith" ROM 3:10-12 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." Hope this helps. John |
