Thanks, Nolan, for your answer. So, when we come to Christ for salvation, it's clear that it is apart from sinner's efforts to obey the law? But, as soon as we accept Christ as our righteousness, does God put us back under the law to maintain that righteous standing with Him? In Him, Bill Mc |
Bible Answer: Greetings Bill! "So, when we come to Christ for salvation, it's clear that it is apart from sinner's efforts to obey the law?" Yes!! We are not motivated to come to Christ because the law tells us to, it is because we sincerely heed the calling to follow Him! The motivation to follow Christ is out of a sincere "want to" or something that we simply cannot be without- we must have and follow Christ! We must depend on Him and wholeheartedly turn to Him! This is the motivation behind our "coming to Christ" in salvation. We do it because we cannot honestly live without Him! We would rather die than be separated from Christ! That is why we turn to Christ. And Christ came to fulfill the law, so we are no longer under the law if we are truly one with Christ. "But, as soon as we accept Christ as our righteousness, does God put us back under the law to maintain that righteous standing with Him?" No, God does not put us back under the law.. There is no such thing as 'maintaining a righteous standing'.. We are already declared as righteous in God's sight if we truly have received salvation and are washed with His blood. If you are saved, then Sanctification has begun its process within you, slowly "chiselling" you to be just like Jesus Christ! And God does this through the Holy Spirit living inside of you. He does not do it by "putting you back under the law", since this method has proven itself 'ineffective' to begin with! Bill, If the law saved anyone, then what need would there be for Christ?
