Bible Question:
Thanks, Nolan, for your answer. So, when we come to Christ for salvation, it's clear that it is apart from sinner's efforts to obey the law? But, as soon as we accept Christ as our righteousness, does God put us back under the law to maintain that righteous standing with Him? In Him, Bill Mc |
Bible Answer: No! Read Galatians. Some excerpts: "Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" (Gal 3:3) "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." (Gal 5:1) "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly" (Gal 2:21) Read Gal 2:11-21. Also read Acts 15:28-29, the only real "laws" laid out for new testament believers. Rather than giving us a new law to maintain the righteous standing, he has given us a new heart, see Hebrews 8. Hebrews 8:13 says, "When He said, 'A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete." Colleen |
