Bible Question:
Hi, I believe that Jesus baptized by the holy spirit [sic]. I believe that we should be filled with [the] holy spirit. Thus, I believe that the "spirit of holiness" of Romans 1:4 would be the most accurate rendering. I believe that the long sentence of Romans 1:1-7 in the Greek has pronouns of Deity that when totaled are divisible by three. I find that to be glorifing to the triune God and I praise Him in it. Now my question is this: Can this same situation of praise be accomplished by an accurate rendering of the long sentence of Titus 1:1-4? I have my own personal possible interpretation; what do you think? Can you find in this Greek sentence pronouns of Deity that total up to a number divisible by three? Would you want to try? Would you feel any need or desire to try? In other words, how far "off base" am I here? From the heart, Ray |
Bible Answer: Ray: I am so glad the hear from you! You are in my prayers. Now to your question. Most all of Pauls intoductions have a simular format to a degree. Just because you asked, I did count the pronouns in both introductions. In Romans, I could not come up with a number divisible by three. In Titus, yes, I think maybe. So you got me, why would I want to do the mathmatics? The reason I desired to do so was because I thought there was some significant idea you were coming up with. Now about being off base, no. Scripture speaks to each of us in ways that the Holy Spirit wants to make us aware of. I have often read a passage several times and learned something new after reading it for years. For instance, last week when I was reading what happened on that day, the last week of Jesus, one day at a time, as the day passed. I noticed something I had overlooked. The donkey Jesus rode on had to have its mother with it. That opened a new idea for my understanding of this event. Why I never paid attention to that detail before I have no idea. This was a real gem to discover for me. I hope my answer is what you expected. Sometimes I get an answer to my questions and they are way off base. I hope I got close to what you were looking for. Blessings to you Ray! justme |
