AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 8:15 They came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; |
Bible Question: Normally a person at the moment of salvation receive the Holy Spirit, I am told. However, this passage does not support that. Phillip baptized (with water) many Samaritans but Apostle John and Peter came down and prayed for them so they may receive the Holy Spirit. Any good explanation for this? |
Bible Answer: You are correct that a person receives the Holy Spirit when they receive salvation. Baptism, however does not equal salvation. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation. Jesus dying on the cross is our salvation. Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with[a] water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. |
