Bible Question: Last week I was told that if you were not baptized then your name would not be put in the Lamb's Book of Life and you would not go to Heaven. Even if you were saved. Please help. I am very confused now. I have been saved and baptized, but I have friends that even though they are saved, have not been baptized. What do I say to the person who has given me this information? Are they right? |
Bible Answer: There actually is NO scriptiure in the bible, where it specifically tells you that you must be baptized. However, many people give the response that, "that is what Jesus did and we are to follow his example." See Matthew 3:13-15. The bible DOES specically say that we are to acknowledge our sinfulness and to seek forgiveness through Jesus Christ John 3:16; Romans 10: 9-10, 13. for example and that it is only through Jesus Christ that we can be accepted into heaven. Whether you are baptized or not. Your well-intentioned friend has taken what is considered doctrine and made it into scripture. Ask your friend politely to find and quote to you the scripture where it says that if you are not baptized you will not go to heaven, saved or not. Then post it everywhere on this message board. I would love to see it. Because it just isn't there. There is only one name under heaven by which we may be saved and it isn't baptism (see Acts 4:12. You don't have to be mean or rude, but do ask your friend to show you where it says that. Good question! I hope you will begin to question many things you are told about your salvation. I believe that is what Paul was referring to when he said to "work out your salvation." (See Phillipians 2:12. We are not to take for granted anything that anyone says to us, according to John in I John 4:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they be of God: because many false prophets ar gone out into the world." (not even what I am saying) but, to check what is said against the Bible and see how it stacks up against the bible. That is our plumb line. I wish you well in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ upon whom we are saved. never be afraid to question what someone tells you about the bible. Do check it out! It is your duty. Well done for you today. |
