AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 20:24 "But I do not consider my life as something of value or dear to me, so that I may [with joy] finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify faithfully of the good news of God's [precious, undeserved] grace [which makes us free of the guilt of sin and grants us eternal life]. |
Subject: Pursuit of the Prize |
Bible Note: Hi Doc, This quote reminds me of Philippians 3:12-16: "Phil 3:12 ΒΆ Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Phil 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, Phil 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; Phil 3:16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained." Jonathan Edwards was part of "The Great Awakening" (1734-1743) period of time in the American Colonies, along with George Whitefield and William Tennent, that began as a series of isolated spiritual revivals in the Connecticut Valley. But this revival quickly spread through the colonies, causing a renewed spiritual fervor even through the 1740s. Blessings to you, Makarios |
