Bible Note: Dear Grace and Truth, In the church where I am amember, before a person is admitted into the felowship, those who desire membership must first be baptized (that is if they have not already been baptized previously). They also must make a confession of faith in Christ before the congragation. This takes place after they have spent a period of time learning the creeds and confessions that our denomination subscibes to (no christians conscience is bound by these creeds and confessions but to the Scriptures alone). In this age of "cheap grace", "easy believism" and catering to the "felt needs" of people, placing requiements on them may adversly affect membership numbers and may damage the bottom line. The marketing of the gospel, as if it were snake oil, is sacraligious! I don't enjoy my cynisism about the current state of affairs of the church in America, but pray that God will grant a new reformation to us. John Reformed |
