Bible Answer: Hi bajackson39, What translation did you quote from in your question? I agree with its capitalization, but wonder what version it is. I would like to get your eyes off of the people involved and look at the Person of the Scriptures. This spirit is said to be poured out "upon all flesh". Verse 33 says, "He has poured forth this which you both see and hear." This is the "promise", the down payment, the pledge. This is the holy spirit, to my mind. So in verse 33 I see both the Holy spirit and also this holy spirit that we both see and hear. Acts 2:33, "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear." In other words, I see that everything is now in the hands of Jesus and He has received the promise of [from] the Holy Spirit, that is, the holy spirit that was promised. Acts 2:18b, "I will pour forth of My *spirit and they shall prophecy." Acts 2:33b, "...He has poured forth this [promised spirit] which you both see and hear." Acts 2:4, "And they were all filled with the *holy *spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance." From the heart, Ray |
