AMPLIFIED 2015 | Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Subject: True repentance |
Bible Note: That was a great post on repentance. I lot of people think that to repent means to be sorry. I would like to add a verse to your post. 2 Cor. 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. The word for repented here is as follows. ametameletos, from Greek 1 (a) (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of Greek 3338 (metamellomai); irrevocable without repentance, not to be repented of. Notice what the sorrow of the world brings death. It is wordly because it is sorrow without Jesus being involved. Metanoeo carries a directional connotation, from something to something. For the repentance to be effective it must be a change of mind about the person of Jesus Christ. It is interesting to note the repentance and faith are two sides of the same coin, you can’t have one with out the other if it is going to work. |
