Bible Question:
CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME ON THE FOLLOWING: ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE WHICH DAY IS REFERRED TO AS FIRST DAY, REST DAY, SABATH, ETC. IS SUNDAY THE FIRST DAY AND THE REST DAY IS SATURDAY. SHOULD SATURDAY BE THE DAY WE NEED TO GO TO CHURCH AND NOT SUNDAY. THIS WAS RAISED BY OUR PASTOR MOSES VIGNES, HAND OF GOD, RESERVOIR, AUSTRALIA. I AM CONFUSED. WE HAVE BEEN MEETING ON FRIDAY (AT A HALL), SATURDAY (AT A HALL OR AT PEOPLES HOUSE) AND MEET AT CHURCH ON SUNDAY. ALL DAYS ARE HOLY/SABATH AND OR PRAYER DAY. AS A PRACTICE SHOULD IT BE SATURDAY/SUNDAY AS A CHURCH DAY. MY SINCERE APPOLOGIES ON RAISING THIS QUESTION. |
Bible Answer: The Sabbath in Acts 'Among the several references to the Sabbath in Acts (1:12; 13:14-44; 15:21; 17:2; 18:4; 20:7) there is little evidence to suggest that the earliest Christian communities deviated from the traditional Sabbath observed on the seventh day. The lone reference to a gathering "On the first day of the week" (20:7) most likely reflects an emerging Christian consensus that the first day was an appropriate day on which to meet for worship and celebrating the Lord's Supper.' ____________________ (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Dictionaries/BakersEvangelicalDictionary/bed.cgi |
