Bible Question: There is 2 differing accounts of how Judas (Jesus'betrayer)died.Acts1:18 totally differs from Matt27:5.Any thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Another possibility is in Biblical times hanging did not mean what it does today. In Biblical times hanging often referred to the death by impalment on a stake. A prisoner was impaled on a sharpened stake and hung there until dead or totally decomposed. In any case Judas may have set up a stake for himself to fall on, then hurled himself off a cliff onto it thus he would be impaled ripped wide open and his internal organs visible. The act would have been described as hanging but the results would be as described. |
