Bible Question: Did God mention his/her gender in bible? |
Bible Answer: Read Mark 12:20-27, then the creation story. And John 4:24. I think you will find that God is neither male or female in the human sense. He is a Spirit and has both female and male attributes. It is a grammar thing to use he. When He is protecting, providing, correcting He is acting as a father, so these are considered to be male attributes. When he is nurturing, teaching, encouraging these are things mothers are known for and therefore these can be considered to be female attributes. This doesn't mean that fathers can't or don't teach. Or that mothers can't or don't correct her children. Studying languages with more obvious masculine and feminine words than English tend to make this concept easier to understand. However, we are created in the image of God. Male and female created he them. Both males and females are in the image of God. When we get to heaven we also will no longer be male or female in the human sense of the word. Kind of a hard concept to grasp, but clearly laid out in scripture. This is a complex concept, not easily explained in this forum, but hopefully this helps some. :-) |
