NASB | John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and it is your will to practice the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks what it natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths. |
Subject: Can Satan ever speak truth? |
Bible Note: Satan may at times acknowledge the truth but it is never in his spirit. His intention always is to deceive. He may use truth and thwart it for his own purposes. For example in Luke 4:34 Satan says this: “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” Here you see the acknowledgement of Jesus and who He is. |
